Kevin Bailey, Loma Hurst and Sam Smith were presented with the 2019 Distinguished Alumni award, which represents individuals who attended Trenton Junior College/North Central Missouri College and have distinguished themselves and the college in their professions or chosen endeavors. Bailey attended NCMC during 1974-75 before transferring to Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration/management. Mrs. Hurst attended TJC, then worked for the college as a secretary and an assistant to Dean of Vocational and Technical Education Gean Paul Porter, retiring in 1992 as placement advisor. Smith earned an associate in applied science degree from NCMC in 1974, eventually finishing his bachelor of science in education degree at Truman State University in 1980.
Honored as the 2019 “Lead Contributor” was the late Nancy Sue Ball, who attended TJC in the late 1960s. She was recognized for her monetary contribution that has allowed the NCMC Foundation to develop a digital media program at the college as well as fund student textbook scholarships.
Chad Boyd, a member of the NCMC Board of Trustees, introduced each of the honorees, who were presented with awards by President Dr. Lenny Klaver.
Dr. Klaver also spoke and gave a brief update of activities happening on the campus, including increased enrollment, new programs and new construction.
Foundation board chairman Allan Seidel served as master of ceremonies for the event, which was attended by around 170 persons. In addition to the recognition and meal, an auction was held to raise funds for the Voyage Fund, which supports new and current programs designed to enhance the learning experience of students as well as provide professional development opportunities for faculty and staff. Around $2,800 was raised at the auction, which was conducted by Michael Witten of MW Auctions.
