Grundy Girls Crash Boards, Win Title

In the championship game of the HDC Conference Tournament in Mercer on Saturday, Feb. 15, the Grundy County girls basketball team used a historic performance on the boards to get past Tri-County and win the school’s first league tournament title since the 1997-1998 season.
Grundy collected 70 rebounds in the win, the fifth highest single-game total in state history. Jandie Peterson pulled down 28 of those rebounds, which marks the 11th-highest individual single game total.
Peterson led Grundy with 18 points in the win while Bri Carpio followed with 17 and Anna Milazzo and Aubrey Gann each added 11.
Grundy followed up the tournament victory with a 54-51 win over Mercer on Monday and a 66-39 win over Tri-County on Tuesday to wrap up the HDC Conference regular season title. That championship is Grundy’s first league title since the 1999-2000 season.
Peterson had 18 against Mercer and 22 against Tri-County while Gann had 15 against Mercer and 17 against Tri-County. Milazzo added 10 against Tri-County.
Grundy is now 19-4 overall and 6-0 in the HDC.
GRUNDY BOYS
The Grundy boys fell 68-33 at Mercer on Monday before winning 67-43 at Tri-County on Tuesday.
Cadan Gann had 27 points against Tri-County and Cooper Lewis added 24 points and 17 rebounds. Against Mercer, Gann led the Panthers with 15 points.
Grundy now sits at 10-14 overall and 3-3 in the HDC.
