Laredo R-7 Board Extends Adminstrator’s Contract

The Laredo R-7 Board of Education approved the extension of the administrator’s contract during a meeting on Monday night.
According to information provided by Administrator Misty Foster, the board agreed to extend the contract for Ms. Foster by one year, giving her a three-year contract through the 2022-23 school year. Her salary will be set during the budget process.
Approval was given to the district calendar for 2020-21, with the first day of classes being Tuesday, Aug. 25 and the last day being Wednesday, May 12. Classes will start each day at 7:55 a.m. and be dismissed at 3:30 p.m.
The board voted to pay for the basic health package available to employees during a health screening to be held on April 29 as well as voting to seek mowing bids. The spring music concert was set for 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28 and the board agreed to adopt the Big Ideas math curriculum for the seventh grade.
The board discussed several items, including a co-op with the Pleasant View R-6 School for track and field, the 2020-21 health insurance, building improvements and occupational therapy services. It was announced that three persons have filed for the board of education, thus no election will be required. Incumbents Casey Bowe and Jason Meeker, along with Sarah Lowrey, will be sworn-in to serve a three-year term at the April board meeting.
Student Jaiden Carter was recognized for finishing second at the Grundy County Spelling Bee and advancing to the regional event on March 7 in St. Joseph. Title I reading night will be held on March 31 and the deadline to apply for the Murphy Scholarship is March 15.
An executive session for personnel was held, with the announcement made regarding Ms. Foster’s contract.
The next meeting of the board is scheduled for Monday, March 9.
