Feb 7, 2020 | Headline News

A Gilman City man was killed in a two-vehicle accident on Thursday afternoon, Feb. 6 at the intersection of Highways 6 and 190 at Jamesport.
William H. Turner, 92, was pronounced dead at Wright Memorial Hospital, where he was taken following the accident. The Missouri State Highway Patrol said he was the driver of a truck that was eastbound when it travelled into the westbound lane of the road and struck an SUV driven by Sarah Bird, 42, of Gallatin. The patrol said Mrs. Bird attempted to brake her vehicle in an effort to avoid the collision, however, the front end of the Turner vehicle struck the front end of the Bird SUV. The impact caused the Turner vehicle to rotate and come to rest on its wheels on the highway. The Bird vehicle travelled off the north side of the road, struck an embankment and overturned, coming to rest on its wheels.
Mrs. Bird was taken by private vehicle to Wright Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Both vehicles were demolished.
The accident was investigated by Cpl. M.J. Miller and Sgt. J.M. Toal. They were assisted by Trooper C.D. O’Hara, the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office, the Daviess County Ambulance Service and the Jamesport Fire Department.
