Park Board Will Seek Secretary, Pool Manager

The Trenton Park Board will be advertising for a new recording secretary as well as a pool manager following action taken during the Feb. 5 board meeting.
Vicki Weaver, who has served as the recording secretary for the board for the past six years, submitted her resignation, with Wednesday being her last meeting. Board members thanked Mrs. Weaver for her service to the board and agreed to advertise for her replacement. The board also discussed the need to seek a new manager for the Trenton Family Aquatic Center as the manager for the past several seasons, Alexis Whitney, had earlier told the board that the 2019 season would be her last. Park Superintendent Jason Shuler said he will begin advertising for the pool manager, assistant manager, lifeguards and part-time park employees around March 1. Shuler said he would like to see the board hire a manager first and let that person be involved in hiring the lifeguards.
Shuler gave an update on his activities in the past month, including removing snow at the Public Safety Complex, airport, walking trail, Eastside Park parking lot, Rock Barn area and the upper and lower Moberly Park parking lots. Work continues on the ADA-compliant playground at Eastside Park and he said the park department has been assisting the street department with pouring concrete. He also reported on drainage improvements at Gladys Grimes Park.
Shuler said he has been working on the 2020 budget and asked board members to be thinking about projects they would like to see included as part of that document. He mentioned that they should be thinking about painting the pool in the next couple of years, something that is done every five to eight years. He also noted that there is some concrete repair that will need to be done at the pool.
The next regular board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, March 4 at 5:15 p.m., however the facilities committee will hold a meeting at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 20, with all board members invited to attend.
