Feb 4, 2020 | Basketball, Sports & Recreation

The Trenton High School boys basketball team nearly picked up its first Grand River Conference victory of the season on Monday, coming up four points short in a 47-43 home loss to Polo.
Trenton was outscored marginally in each of the first three quarters and entered the fourth trailing 35-27. Trenton made one final push in the final frame, getting three-pointers from Brycin Loyd and Preston Harris to help close the gap. Polo didn’t do itself any favors on the free throw line, going just 7-of-12 from the stripe in the final eight minutes.
Trenton got close, but came up just short in the end, falling by the four-point margin.
The Bulldogs were led by 13 points from Royce Jackson and Chase Otto added nine. Jaren Whitney had eight points, Gavin Roeder had seven and Loyd and Harris finished with three each.
The loss dropped the Bulldogs to 3-15 overall and 0-5 within the league. Trenton will host Putnam County on Senior Night tonight. Seniors will be honored prior to the game, which will tip off after the girls contest between the two schools, which begins at 6 o’clock.
