Trenton Junior Give Polo A Repeat Of Her Last Performance
The Trenton High School girls basketball team matched up with Polo on Monday for the second time and this game didn’t vary much from the script Trenton wrote in its 49-33 victory over the Panthers at the Gallatin Tournament back on Dec. 5.
Both games were close at halftime before Maci Moore overwhelmed Polo in the second half.
Moore scored 28 points, 19 in the second half of Monday’s contest and the Bulldogs rolled to a 59-40 win on their home floor.
Moore scored 28 points in the previous matchup with Polo as well, getting just four in the first half before exploding with 24 in the final two frames to bury the Panthers. This time around Moore found nine points in the first quarter alone, but Polo kept the junior forward off the scoreboard in the second quarter. The result was just a 25-23 lead for the Bulldogs at the break.
Moore nailed a three-pointer early in the third quarter and then went to work on the inside.
Polo had no answer.
Moore didn’t shoot a free throw in the first half, but the junior forward was either getting two points or a trip to the charity stripe each time Trenton looked to her. She finished 8-of-9 from the line in the second half, scoring 19 over the game’s final 16 minutes to turn the contest into a rout.
Lexi Whitaker supplemented Moore’s productivity with 11 points, four assists and two steals. McKayla Blackburn knocked down a trio of three-pointers to finish with nine points and Chandler Lynch had four points, six assists and three steals. Kendall Crowley had four points as well and Teya Cooksey’s three rounded out the Trenton total.
“The girls were very consistent,” Trenton coach Kameron Cool said. “We withstood a great shooting night from Polo and made sure to move the ball and get great shots on offense and that allowed us to stretch out our lead.”
With the win, Trenton improved to 11-7 overall and 4-1 within the Grand River Conference. The Bulldogs are back in GRC action at home again tonight, hosting Putnam County. Tipoff is set for 6 o’clock. Trenton’s senior players will be honored between the girls and boys contests.
