Max was born the first child of Bert and Blanche Moore Oyler on June 18, 1918. He graduated from Shott Grade school, attended Tindall High School for two years and graduated from Trenton High School. He attended Trenton Junior College for one year. While in high school and college, he was active in FFA and the FFA Alumni. He farmed with his family on the family farm.
Max married the love of his life, Maradyn Webster, on Oct. 15, 1948. They lived for seven years in the second house on the family farm, which they modernized themselves. They then bought a farm four miles northeast of Trenton in the Grundy Center neighborhood and completed modernization of a second house. They sold the farm in 1962 and bought the Spickard Locker, which they operated for 25 years.
During this time, Max served as president of the American Farming Association as well as served on the state committee. He served several terms as president and vice president of the Grundy County Farm Bureau and was a board member and long-term legislative chairman. He served on the North Central Missouri Fair Board and worked the hog show as co-superintendent. He served as president and was a board member of the Missouri Locker and Meat Association. He helped coach FFA meat teams for Trenton and Princeton during which time one team won state. While on the farm, Max and Maradyn served as 4-H leaders.
In 2011, Max was given a plaque for over 60 years of service to Grundy County Farm Bureau and Max was especially proud when Missouri Farm Bureau honored him with an award for Distinguished Service to Agriculture in 2014.
Max belonged to and was active in the Wesley United Methodist Church since 1962. He belonged to the choir, led singing, sang solos, was a Wesley Singer and did many odd jobs to help with his church. In July 2010, the women of Wesley presented Max with a plaque in recognition of all the things he did to preserve and maintain the church.
Music and singing have always been an important part of Max’s life. He loved to sing and to bring joy to others with his singing. He sang with the men’s chorus in Spickard, the Tindall Quartet and later in the Grundy Center Quartet.
He lost long-time love and wife of 62 years, Maradyn after a long illness on April 5, 2010. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Elizabeth; and brothers, Lyle, Charles and Clifford.
He is survived by his sister Mary Larison of Kansas City; a son, Dennis and his wife, Marilyn of Cotopaxi, CO; grandchildren, Chris (Jill) Oyler of Lewisville, TX and Kathryn (Brandon) Ory of Cotopaxi; and five great-grandchildren, Kody, Kasey, Alex, Lucas and Michael.
