Linda Cooksey, a 77-year-old Edinburg resident, was called Home at 12:35 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 20, 2020 at Wright Memorial Hospital in Trenton.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2020 at Resthaven Mortuary in Trenton. Burial will be in Edinburg Cemetery, west of Trenton.
A family visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2020 at the mortuary.
Mrs. Cooksey was born on Feb. 20, 1942 in Princeton, the daughter of Richard Sr., and Helen Rae Black Callen. She graduated from Princeton High School in 1960. She was married on Sept. 9, 1966 at Princeton to Robert Dale Cooksey, who preceded her in death on Aug. 27, 2015. Mrs. Cooksey worked for over 30 years at the Trenton Republican-Times and served as the business manager for several years. Before retiring, she was the deputy treasurer for Grundy County and spent many years as Madison Township Collector. She was a lover of all animals and enjoyed the outdoors. One would often find her sitting on her deck in the summer with a cup of coffee and a cigarette in hand. She was an excellent cook and made the best pumpkin pie, “Mam’s famous pumpkin pie, made with a hint of grandma.” She loved her family and spent a lot of time attending her grandkids and great-grandkids school programs and ball games.
She was a member of the Dockery Chapel United Methodist Church and most recently attended Grundy Center United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Edinburg Rebekahs.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Tammy Burgess and her husband, David, and Cassy Gilworth and her husband, Derek, all of Trenton; a son, Cory Cooksey and his wife, Carla of Trenton; four grandchildren, Megan DeVorss and her husband Joseph, Calvin Cooksey, Carly Wanstreet and Kennedy Wanstreet, all of Trenton; five step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Carol “Puddy” Hart and her husband, John and a sister-in-law, Mary Callen, all of Princeton.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Callen Jr.
