For the first time in program history, the North Central Missouri College men’s basketball team is ranked number one in the nation.
The NJCAA released its weekly Division II poll on Monday and the Pirates, who received five of the 10 first-place votes, sit at number one.
North Central was ranked fifth in the previous rankings and did not play last week. It was a good week to be off, however, as the top four teams ranked ahead of NCMC all incurred losses.
NCMC is 13-1 overall on the season and will return to the court as the nation’s number-one team on Wednesday Jan. 8, playing host to Ellsworth Community College. The game tips off at 7:30 p.m., following a women’s contest between the two schools, which begins at 5:30.
