A teenager is recovering from a gunshot wound after an accidental shooting at a residence at Leisure Lake.
The Grundy County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating the shooting, which occurred Saturday, Nov. 30. According to the sheriff’s office, a person in the house was handling a 9 mm handgun when it accidentally discharged. The bullet traveled through the living room wall and into a bedroom, where it struck a 13-year-old male in the upper torso as he was lying in bed. The teen was transported by private vehicle to Wright Memorial Hospital in Trenton and then taken by ground ambulance to Children’s Mercy Hospital, where he underwent surgery to remove the bullet from his abdomen. The juvenile was released from the hospital.
