William Dale “Bill” Dixon, 84, died on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2019 at the home of his daughter, Helen Chastain, in Morris, OK.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2019 at the Jamesport United Methodist Church. Inurnment will follow in Jamesport Masonic Cemetery.
A family visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2019 at Roberson Funeral Home in Jamesport.
Mr. Dixon was born on June 26, 1935 to Leland Dale and Helen Bohannon Dixon in Jamesport.
His parents passed away in 1940 and 1941 when Bill was 5 years old, leaving him and his sister, Peggy, to be raised by their grandparents, Everett and Monta Whorton Dixon, spending every summer on the farm near Jamesport, and Mack and Cora Thompson Bohannon in Muskogee, OK. He attended school in Muskogee, graduating from Muskogee Central High School in 1953.
Mr. Dixon enjoyed farming and joined his grandfather on his farm east of Jamesport, where he lived until his illness.
He was married on Aug. 12, 1956 in Jamesport to Joyce Naber, who preceded him in death on March 29, 2002.
Mr. Dixon worked for the Rock Island Railroad for about 10 years. He then worked as a rural mail carrier in Jamesport until he retired. Throughout his adult life he continued farming, partnering with Richard Dustman in recent years.
He was a member of the Trenton Masonic Lodge, the Moila Shrine Temple, the Jamesport Lions Club, the National Rural Letter Carriers Association and the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen.
He was a Chiefs, Royals and Mizzou football fan.
In his retirement he enjoyed traveling with his longtime companion, Neva Fiedler. They travelled to Hawaii, Alaska, Cancun, took Caribbean cruises and spent the last several winters in Gulf Shores, AL.
Mr. Dixon is survived by three children, Cheryl (Durwin Fitch) McKenzie of Kapolei, HI, Charles Dixon of Gladstone and Helen (Mike) Chastain of Morris, OK; a sister, Peggy Dixon Starkey of Muskogee, OK; five grandchildren, Eric McKenzie, Emily McKenzie, John Dixon, Jimmy Dixon, and Meghan (Shawn) Stopp; three great-grandchildren, Hailey McKenzie, Lily McKenzie and Jaxton Stopp; and Neva Fiedler of La Plata and her family.
Memorials are suggested to the Gee’s Creek Cemetery or Jamesport United Methodist Church in care of Roberson Funeral Home, 503 S. Broadway St., Jamesport, MO 64648.
