The Economic Development and Administrative committees of the Trenton City Council met on Tuesday night, Nov. 12 at city hall.
The Economic Development Committee voted to recommend to the city council that a hotel/motel bed tax issue be placed on the April 7, 2020 election ballot. The 5 percent tax would be assessed as part of the charge to individuals who rent hotel/motel rooms in Trenton. The committee also voted to present a draft brochure to the city council, promoting activities and attractions in and around Trenton.
The Economic Development Committee will meet again at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 10.
During the Administrative Committee meeting, members voted to recommend to the council a policy that would not have the city place any specialty signs. Currently, the police chief and street department make decisions on whether or not a street sign is to be installed.
It was also decided to have the city attorney research row crop rental agreements and draft an agreement for review by the committee at its next meeting. This comes after the council recently rejected bids to rent city-owned property for farming purposes due to a concern that the contracted time of the contract was not long enough. The committee will be meeting at 7 p.m. on Dec. 10.
