Felony drug charges are facing a Spickard man who is being charged as a persistent drug offender.
According to information provided by the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office, 18-year-old David Clay-Austin Travis is being held in the Grundy County Detention Center on $15,000 cash or corporate surety bond. He is charged with a class D felony of possession of a controlled substance except 35 grams or less of marijuana/synthetic cannabinoid and a class E felony of tampering with physical evidence in a felony prosecution. Austin, who has previous drug convictions, is accused of possessing methamphetamine on Nov. 9 and of attempting to conceal a baggie of methamphetamine in a Mountain Dew can with the purpose to impair its availability to the sheriff’s office in its investigation. Travis, who would be allowed to post 10 percent of his bond, is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 26.
Also arrested was Luke Cline, a 63-year-old Trenton resident, who is charged with a class A misdemeanor of passing bad checks. He is accused of writing a check to Hy-Vee on July 7, 2018 in the amount of $130.66, knowing it would not be paid. Cline’s bond is $850 cash only and he is also scheduled to be in court on Nov. 26.
