Lindell Ralph Sturgeon, an 85-year-old rural Trenton resident, died at 8:01 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2019 at his residence, where he was under hospice care.
A family visitation is scheduled for 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 10, 2019 at Slater-Neal Funeral Home of Trenton. Open visitation will begin at noon on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2019 at the funeral home.
There will be a private burial at a later date in Shelburne Cemetery, southwest of Trenton.
Mr. Sturgeon was born on Aug. 2, 1934 in Pacific Junction, IA, the son of Ralph and Irene Fisher Sturgeon. The family moved to California when he was three.
Mr. Sturgeon graduated from Chico State College in California with a degree in industrial arts. He began teaching at Walnut Creek Junior High School. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1958, serving through 1959. He moved to Missouri in 1978 to take over the family farm.
He was married on Jan. 24, 1982 to Dinah Burgess Trickel. They moved to Walnut Creek, CA, where he resumed his teaching until retiring in 1994. The couple moved back to Missouri and farmed until retiring again in 2003.
Mr. Sturgeon enjoyed woodturning and had the ability to create beautiful art from a piece of wood. He took great pride in creating a place for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren to enjoy. Many memories were made swimming in the lake or picking apples. The couple enjoyed dancing and socializing with friends.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Dinah of the home; a daughter, Audra Trickel Schlarb and her husband, Ed of Cameron; a son, Brad Trickel and his wife, Terri of Hallsville; a sister, Jean Dunning of Walnut Creek; three grandchildren, Lindsey Winton of Cameron, Arielle Heather and her husband, Corey of Cameron and Derrek Trickel of Yucaipa, CA; and two great-grandchildren, Greyson and Griffin Heather.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bill and Jack Sturgeon; and a nephew, Andrew Dunning.
Memorial donations are suggested to the Shelburne Cemetery and may be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
