Max Kenneth Hamilton, an 85-year-old resident of Trenton, died on Friday, Oct. 25, 2019, after a fall and lengthy hospitalization.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2019 at Resthaven Mortuary in Trenton. A family visitation will be held one hour prior to the services on Saturday at the mortuary.
Mr. Hamilton was born on Sept. 15, 1934 near Humphreys, in Sullivan County, the son of Richard and Alice Fox Hamilton. After high school graduation in 1952, he worked in retail sales at JC Penney in Trenton and took classes at Trenton Junior College. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1957, serving in Europe. After his discharge, he attended Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville, where he received a bachelor’s degree, and Northwest Missouri State University, where he received his master’s degree in math education. He retired after teaching mathematics for 28 years in both the Osborn and Trenton public schools.
Retirement proved to be a busy but enjoyable time for him as he golfed and fished, regularly making many friends. He recycled golf balls and aluminum cans at both the Maysville Lakesite Club and the Riverside Country Club at Trenton. Using the proceeds from that recycling, he purchased and planted numerous trees, which continue to beautify those golf courses and was a great source of pride to him.
Mr. Hamilton is survived by his brother, Darrell (Jean) Hamilton; a sister, Carol Jean Vignaroli; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Donna Ashenfelter; brothers-in-law, Richard Ashenfelter and Don Vignaroli; a niece, Kristen Ashenfelter Roberts; and nephew, Kenneth Mark Callen,
Memorial contributions may be made to Grundy County-Jewett Norris Library and may be left at or mailed to the Resthaven Mortuary of Trenton.
