The Trenton High School volleyball team continues to be stuck on 10 wins after suffering losses on Monday and Tuesday.
Trenton traveled on Monday to face St. Joseph Christian, where the Bulldogs fell 25-13, 25-17. A return home wasn’t much help on Tuesday as Trenton was handed a 25-9, 25-17 loss on their home floor by the Savannah Savages.
Against St. Joseph, Evy McCullough had two kills and three blocks while Mackenzie Klinginsmith and Allena Allen each tallied one kill. Ava Simpson had assists on all four kills Trenton totaled in the loss and Olivia Roberts added one dig.
“We started in a hole in the first set, but were able to battle back and be competitive,” Trenton Head Coach Pam Bowden said. “We told the girls to hold their heads high, St. Joe Christian is a great team.”
Trenton dropped the junior varsity contest 25-14, 25-20.
A slow start was the chief culprit in the varsity’s Tuesday loss as Savannah cruised to a 25-9 win in the opening game. Trenton again stepped its competitive level up in game two, but the Savages held on to win 25-17 and seal the match victory.
“It took us a little bit to settle in and realize mentally that we could play with Savannah,” Bowden said. “Volleyball can be such a mental game, if things don’t fall the way that we would like.”
Trenton was led by two kills and two blocks from McCullough and Libby Fewins had two kills, a block and a dig. Simpson handed out five assists, Allen had an ace and a kill, Roberts had one assist and two digs and Natalie Ricker and Jessa Shipley each had two digs as well.
It was Senior Night for the Bulldogs, who honored Allen, Klinginsmith, Fewins, Tierney Doolittle and Jamie Burkeybile.
“The crowd support for senior night was amazing,” Bowden said. “We appreciate each person who has contributed to the team this year. We have had great support from our fans and families.”
Trenton fell 25-10, 25-18 in JV action against Savannah and lost a C match with the Savages, 25-9, 25-17.
Trenton’s varsity will take on Hamilton in Lathrop on Monday to begin play in the Class 2, District 16 Tournament. The first serve for the district match is scheduled for 5 p.m.
