2019 AREA SOFTBALL ROUNDUP

Oct 24, 2019 | Baseball, Softball, Sports & Recreation

MERCER
Record:
8-6, 5-1 HDC – 2nd in the league.
All-HDC Selections: Kaydee Hill, first team – unanimous; Jordan Coon, first team; Rainey Michael, honorable mention; Aubrey Wilson, honorable mention.
How It Ended: Mercer received a first-round bye at districts, falling to North Harrison 16-1 in the Class 1, District 15 semifinals.
Coaches Take: “It was a great season. It was a short season that ended as the Lady Cardinals were beginning to find themselves as a unified team. I was blessed to have a group of nine – yes, only nine – raw, hard working ladies who believed in what their coaches were telling them no matter how ridiculous it may have seemed. We started the season preaching work hard to grow, remember it takes a team and be better than you were the day before and that’s exactly how they ended.” – Head Coach Melissa Hill

2019 AREA BASEBALL ROUNDUP
TRI-COUNTY
Record:
2-4
Coaches Take: “We made strides throughout the season and our ballgame at Novinger – a game in which we were tied after five innings – showed that we were about ready to take the next step. The first win against Grundy County was tremendously satisfying, following that with a season finale win against Macon-Bucklin County was a great conclusion to nine weeks of hard work, sacrifice and dedication for all the young men in our program.” – Head Coach John Roberts

GRUNDY COUNTY
Record:
1-5
Coaches Take: “The season on paper doesn’t look good. Even though our record does not look good, though, the team got a lot better at the fundamentals and their baseball IQ. I was happy with how much the team improved from the first day of practice to our last game. We took our licks this fall but we improved and are taking momentum with us towards the spring season.” – Head Coach Ty Stillwell
