Tuesday Fire Damages Trenton Residence

Oct 22, 2019 | Headline News

A fire on Tuesday morning, Oct. 22, resulted in major damage to the attached garage of a home at 1111 Rural St. as well as moderate damage to one room near the garage.
The Trenton Fire Department was called to the home, owned by Carla Dobbs and Mary Tunnell, at around 9:45 a.m. after a passerby noticed smoke coming from the garage and called 911. The passerby, Mason Owen, then notified Ms. Dobbs and Ms. Tunnell, who were home at the time, allowing the two women to leave the home safely. Fire Chief Brandon Gibler credited Owen with possibly saving the occupants’ lives by his quick thinking.
Gibler said that in addition to the fire damage, there was moderate smoke damage throughout the house. The cause of the fire was undetermined. Firemen were on the scene approximately two hours.
Assisting the Trenton Fire Department were the Grundy County Rural Fire Protection District, the Grundy County EMS, the Trenton Police Department, Trenton Municipal Utilities, KCP&L and the American Red Cross.
