Oct 18, 2019 | Headline News

The Trenton Rotary Club met on Thursday, Oct. 17 at the First Christian Church fellowship hall. L.D. Gibson was the program chairman.
Tony Ralston and Sam Smith of the Joseph L. Norton VFW Post No. 919 of Trenton told about efforts to raise funds for renovation of the current post building. Approximately $500,000 is needed for the project, which will allow use of both the main floor and second floor of the building for VFW activities as well as other events. Work will include removing the metal facade and going back to the original brick exterior. The downstairs will also have exposed brick and an elevator will be installed to provide access to the upper level. A new HVAC system is also part of the project.
The post has been holding various fundraising activities, including a fish fry and soup luncheon, and is also researching other funding mechanisms, including grants, to help pay for the work.
During the business meeting, it was announced that Trenton R-9 Superintendent Mike Stegman is the newest club member.
Next week’s program chairman is Joe Brinser. Martha Goedert will present the program.
