Trenton seniors Maci Henson and Oakley Madden reached the end of the line on Monday in Kirksville at the Class 1, Section 3 Tournament.
Henson carded a score of 115 while Madden checked in with a mark of 119. Neither score was low enough to send the Bulldog golfers on to state. The top 15 golfers on non-qualifying teams at the sectional advance to state. Henson was 24th overall and was 19th among the golfers not on the top-two finishing teams. Madden was 34th and had the 28th-best score of golfers not from champion Palmyra or runner-up Kirksville.
Both Henson and Madden earned All-Grand River Conference and all-district honors this season. Both were All-GRC golfers last year as juniors as well.
“Maci and Oakley were very close to making the state tournament this year,” Trenton Coach Travis Mullenix said. “Five and nine strokes aren’t much over the course of 18 holes. I’m proud of what they have accomplished in their careers and especially as seniors. Both made the all-conference and all-district teams this year and they should feel very good about that. They’ve been great role models for the younger girls and were a lot of fun to coach. They are my first freshman through seniors on the girls’ side of golf coaching, so they will always hold a very special place in my memories.”
Palmyra won the sectional title with a score of 424 while Kirksville finished runner-up on its home course with a mark of 443. Kirksville’s Abigail Boyer won the individual title, carding a score of 80 for the 18-hole tournament. Chillicothe’s Hallie Jones was second with an 84 and Brookfield’s Laken Sattman was third with a 94.
The state tournament will roll on without a Trenton representative on Oct. 21-22 at the Fremont Hills Golf Course in Nixa.
