Mildred J. Stamper, a 93-year-old resident of Princeton, died at 11:56 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2019 at Pearl’s II Eden For Elders at Princeton.
The body was cremated under the direction of Slater-Neal Funeral Home, Trenton.
Memorial graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2019 at the Spickard Masonic Cemetery.
A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2019 at the Hal England Center in Princeton.
Mrs. Stamper was born on July 6, 1926, the daughter of Frank and Fern Gibson Brownawell. She lived on a farm, had a large garden and worked at a senior boarding home. She moved to Princeton and bought the Lambert Hospital and opened the community hospital, where she was administrator and aide until it burned. She later worked at Sunnyview Nursing Home and Princeton Care Center until she retired in 1990. She remained in her home at the Hal England Center until September 2016, when she moved to Pearl’s II.
She was married on Feb. 12, 1950 at Princeton to William Ben Stamper, who preceded her in death on Nov. 22, 1974.
Survivors include two daughters, Ila Rhea Powell and Benalee Streett and her husband, Lewis, all of Princeton; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 30 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Sharon Crawford; one step-son, Richard Stamper; one sister, Ilene McDaniel; one brother, Gerald Dean Brownawell; one son-in-law, Andy Powell; one niece, Linda McDaniel Wells; and two precious angels (grandchildren), Kayson James Wilson and Jade August Cowart.
Memorials are suggested to the Mercer County Senior Center and may be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
