The Trenton High School volleyball team is halfway to its win total from last season after picking up a 25-12, 25-17 win on its home floor against Brookfield on Monday night.
Trenton won 10 matches last season and the win over Brookfield pushed this year’s team to 5-10 overall. The victory also gave Trenton back-to-back wins for the first time this year and gave the Bulldogs three wins in their last four matches.
At the onset of the match, however, Trenton looked like a step backwards was in the works as Brookfield ran out of the gates with a 7-2 run. Trenton restored the order, however, outscoring the visitors 23-5 the rest of the way to take game one. Trenton controlled game two as well, winning that set by a comfortable eight-point margin to seal the match.
It was the seventh win in a row for the Bulldogs over Brookfield – which Trenton also defeated at the Lathrop Tournament two weeks ago. Trenton has never lost to the Blue and White Bulldogs since that program began in 2014, running an all-time record of 12-0-1 against Brookfield.
Trenton was paced by Olivia Roberts and Libby Fewins, both of whom had three aces and two kills. Evy McCullough added a kill and two blocks and Allena Allen and Natalie Ricker finished with one kill each. Ava Simpson rounded out Trenton’s attack with one ace.
In junior varsity action, Trenton scored a 25-17, 27-25 win with Faith Baker leading the way with four aces and a kill. Lilly Berti added three aces and a kill and Mackenzee Epperson had two aces and a kill. Ally Yoder added two aces in the win.
Trenton dropped the C game at the start of the night 22-25, 25-16, 12-15. Sarah Washburn and Haley Shultz each had two aces and one kill while Jamie Burkeybile finished with three aces. Zoie McGowan and Tierney Doolittle finished with two aces and one ace respectively.
