Sep 26, 2019 | Sports & Recreation

Local father and son armwrestling duo David and Eric Cunningham recently competed at a pair of tournaments. They were in Blue Springs for the Fallen Heroes Tournament on Sept. 21 and in O’Fallon for the Missouri State Championships on Sept. 7.
In Blue Springs, David Cunningham placed second in both the right- and left-hand divisions of the 200-pound Masters Class – 40-and over age group. Eric Cunningham was third in the 150-pound pro class and third in the 230-pound amateur class. Garrett Lowe, traveling with the Cunninghams, placed first in the right-hand division of the 150-pound amateur class and third in the left-hand division of the 150-pound amateur class.
The Fallen Heroes Tournament had 312 total entries, making it the largest armwrestling tournament in the Midwest. Proceeds from the event benefit families who have lost loved ones in the line of duty.
At the event in O’Fallon, David Cunningham was first in the 200-pound-and-under Masters Class in both the right- and left-hand divisions. He was also second in both the right- and left-hand divisions in the 200-pound-and-over Masters Class. Eric Cunningham, meanwhile, was first in the 150-pound Pro Class right-hand division and third in the 176-pound Pro Class right-hand division.
