It’s hard to believe that autumn begins on Monday after all the unseasonably warm temperatures we’ve been experiencing this month.
But autumn it is and several fall-related activities will take place next week.
It will be homecoming week for Trenton High School, with activities taking place every day including the pep rally and coronation of the homecoming royalty on Wednesday and the football game against Princeton/Mercer on Friday night at C.F. Russell Stadium.
Another autumn activity will take place the next weekend with Serve Trenton. This annual event started several years ago with individuals and organizations from across the community coming together to help complete tasks and projects for persons who are unable, financially or physically, to do the work for themselves.
Cleaning, painting, brush removal and some construction projects are just some of the projects that take place on that weekend.
According to the organizers, an emphasis is placed on projects that serve the elderly, orphans and the impoverished, but community construction and beautification projects are also considered.
Work will begin on both Saturday, Sept. 28 and Sunday, Sept. 29, starting with a group gathering at 8 a.m. at C. F. Russell Stadium. In case of inclement weather, the gathering will be moved to Trenton High School.
Persons wanting to volunteer and register for one or both days can go to the Serve Trenton Facebook page or email [email protected]. If you need to talk with someone, you can call us at the newspaper and we will put you in touch with one of the organizers.
There will be some way for everyone to serve whether it be as a volunteer worker,a project coordinator, someone to prepare and deliver lunches or someone willing to watch children while their parents are volunteering.
It’s a great way to give back to our community and makes for an enjoyable and rewarding weekend by helping others.
