After battling through nine holes with back issues at the Gallatin Quad last week, Maci Henson returned to the Daviess County Country Club on Tuesday for the Gallatin Tournament.
Free of pain this time, Henson showed what she is capable of on Gallatin’s nine-hole track.
Henson shot a tournament score of 103, good for third place individually at the event. Henson parred three holes at the tournament, finishing with a front-nine 50 and a back-nine 53.
“Maci redeemed herself from our quad last week,” Trenton Coach Travis Mullenix said. “She drove the ball really well and was just fairly consistent all day. I was happy with her third-place finish.”
Allie Gage of Stanberry was the overall champion at the tournament, shooting an 89. Worth County’s Hannah McElvain was the runner-up, finishing one spot ahead of Henson with a 98.
Behind Henson, Trenton got a 149 from Mari Atup, a 150 from Josie Chumbley and a 161 from Ann Airey to round out the team’s total of 563.
RICHMOND TOURNAMENT
On Wednesday, Trenton went to the Richmond Tournament, but took just three golfers, so no team score was posted by the Bulldogs.
Henson again led Trenton, shooting a 106. After a slow start, Henson rebounded to score a 55 on the front nine then added a back-nine 51 to reach her total. Henson’s overall score was good for 22nd individually at the event.
“Maci played well and had a real good stretch of bogeys late in her round,” Mullenix said. “She started off a little rocky but was able to get it back together. That was a pretty good finish for that tournament.”
Behind Henson, Chumbley had a 128, shooting a 60 on the front and a 68 on the back.
“Josie really played well on the front nine,” Mullenix said. “That’s the best nine-hole score of her career.”
Atup rounded out Trenton’s effort with a 138, scoring a front-nine 68 and a back-nine 70.
After tournaments on back-to-back days, Trenton will get a bit of a break before returning to the links on Monday with a road trip to Unionville to take on Putnam County. Tee time for the dual between the Bulldogs and Midgets is scheduled for 4 p.m.
