Lions Club Hears About VFW Building Renovation Effort

Sep 13, 2019 | Headline News

The Trenton Lions Club met on Tuesday, Sept. 10 in the First Christian Church Fellowship Hall.
President Seth Cox led the pledge to the U.S. flag, followed by prayer by Rev. Steve Martin. George Moore served as “tailtwister.”
Lannie Harkins was the program chairman and introduced Tony Ralston, commander of Joseph L. Norton VFW Post 919, and Quarter Master Sam Smith. Ralston and Smith reviewed the mission and vision of the local post, which focuses on improving the quality of life for veterans, their families and the communities where they live. In line with that mission statement, Post 919 is pursuing fundraising efforts to update the existing VFW Post building. Proposed improvements include removal of siding down to the original brick facade, adding three office areas for providing medical services, installation of an elevator to provide access to all levels of the building, updating the interior and landscaping. The estimated cost of these improvements is nearly $500,000.
The post will launch its fund raising campaign with a fish fry on Wednesday, Sept. 25 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Persons will also have the opportunity to purchase a chance to win a quilt, with all proceeds from the meal and raffle to go toward the building project.
The next meeting of the Trenton Lions Club will be at noon on Tuesday, Sept. 17. George Moore will be the program chairman.
