It came down to overtime, but the Trenton High School junior varsity football team is in the win column. The Bulldogs outlasted the Lexington JV on the road on Monday night, picking up a 16-8 victory.
Ian Elbert got Trenton on the board in the first quarter, scooping up a Minutemen fumble and racing 90 yards for a touchdown. Quincy Griffin ran in the two-point conversion and Trenton held an 8-0 advantage until Lexington knotted the score in the second quarter. Neither team scored again, forcing overtime, where a 25-yard touchdown run by Griffin, who also carried in the two-point conversion, was the difference.
Trenton, now 1-1 on the season, will play host to the Gallatin JV at 6 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 16 at C.F. Russell Stadium.
