The Princeton City Council approved several service contracts during a meeting on Monday night.
According to Assistant City Clerk Corey Willett, eight contracts totalling $4,050 were allowed from the band tax, with funds to be used for various activities during the Calamity Jane Day celebration later this month. The contracts include $150 for local singers, $500 for a band on Saturday afternoon, $700 for a band on Saturday night, $200 for local talent to perform during the day on Saturday, $400 for marching bands participating in the parade and the Battle of the Bands, $100 for the Mic-O-Say performance and $400 for “football karaoke.” A contract for $1,600 will allow for persons attending one of four performances of the melodrama to attend at no cost.
Representatives of the Princeton Ball Association visited with the council regarding efforts to relocate the ballfields to property west of the new Dollar General store on Route FF, just off Highway 136. Two bids have been received for dirt work and the PBA hopes to break grown this fall.
Members of the Mercer County Fair Board requested the city build an addition to the new barn at the fairgrounds, with the fair board to make yearly payments to replace the city funds used. The council agreed to do so and bids will be sought for the work.
The council signed a preliminary contract with McClure Engineering for mandated Missouri Department of Natural Resources water system upgrades. The contract is subject to final approval by the DNR.
The next meeting of the council will be at 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 7.
