William Michael Key, a 56-year-old resident of St. Cloud, FL and former Trenton resident, died on Thursday, July 4, 2019 in St. Cloud.
A prayer service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2019 at Van Hoe Funeral Home in East Moline, IL. Private burial will be at a later date at the Riverside Cemetery in Moline, IL.
A gathering will be held from 12:30 to 3 p.m. on Saturday at the Hampton Heritage Center in Hampton, IL.
Mr. Key was born on June 13, 1963 in Rock Island, IL, the son of Gene and Carlotta McLallen Key. He moved to Hampton at age seven to live with his father and step-mother, Gene and Donna Wilde-Willeford Key. He attended Hampton grade school and UTHS High School in East Moline. He attended Trenton High School during his senior year while living with his aunt and uncle, Carrol and Freddie Key.
After graduating, he attended the Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Clown College in Florida, then worked as a performer at Disney World, where he met and married Christine Wiede. They were the parents of one son, Mitch Otto Key. After his divorce, he performed as a knight for Medieval Times Dinner Theater in Florida and New Jersey. He later returned to Florida, where he worked at golf courses in the St. Cloud area.
He is survived by his son, Mitch of Florida; his father Gene (Donna) Key of Illlinois; two brothers, Joe (Angie) Key of Ohio and Dan (Vicki) Key of Kansas; a step-sister, Diana (Chris) Erling of Washington; two half-brothers, Tim and Tom Brown of Florida; and a half-sister, Debbie Brown of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Carlotta Mizlo; and a half-brother, Kevin Anderson.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
