The annual Trenton High School Alumni Weekend celebration took place on Aug. 30-Sept. 1 with several classes reunions being held. Classes reporting their activities to the Republican-Times include:
Classes 1939-46
Five Trenton High School classes met together on Saturday, Aug. 31 for lunch at Dino’s Restaurant.
Mary Lou Crawford was emcee and welcomed and introduced each one. Vernie “Junior” Witten gave the blessing. The table was decorated with black vases filled with black and golden flowers and placed on a gold table runner.
Greetings were received from Ralph Parker and Bob Witten. Dorothy McMullen graduated 80 years ago and was presented with a rose vase. Donald McCullough and daughter brought fresh peaches from Colorado, which were shared with everyone. Mrs. Crawford stressed the importance of paying the annual dues of $15 to the alumni association and also recognized Dr. John Holcomb and Steve Maxey for the many hours they give to the association throughout the year.
Mrs. Crawford announced the names of those who have died the last year from the class of 1943 – Louis Watkins, Martha Owens Stone, Virginia Winter Rusk, Marjorie Peters Ecklund, Willa Lee Buck King and Jim Witten. Information is sought on Calvin Wylde and Jean Hatton and persons are asked to contact Mrs. Crawford at 359-2851.
Those present were Dorothy Turner McMullen, 1939; Donald Woodard, Vernie Witten, Huel Campbell’s widow Marian Campbell and Cathy Tiegert, in memory of her mother Donna Armstrong Wharton, class of 1941; Cleora Witten McReynolds, Bonnie Gass Moore and Mary Lou Pew Crawford, class of 1943; Donald McCullough, 1945; and Arlene Elliott Garrison, 1946.
Other guests were Denise Scarlett of Crawford, CO (Donald McCullough’s daughter)and Ayse Witten of Los Angeles, CA (Vernie Witten’s daughter).
Class of 1951
The Trenton High School Class of 1951 met for lunch on Aug. 31 at the Tenth Street Baptist Church with 18 class members and eight guests in attendance.
The afternoon was spent visiting and enjoying class picture albums that had been put together by deceased class member Elaine Whitt.
Those attending were Jack and Lore McCausland of Tucson, AZ; Nelson Washburn and granddaughter of California, MO; Harry W. Bratton of Lee’s Summit; Stanley and Joyce Peery of Jamesport; Earlene Trump Lamme and daughter, Linda of Maryville; Jeanne Muff Jones of Gladstone; Jackie Jones Hatcher of San Diego, CA; Fred and Velma Lovell Somers of Atchison, KS: Eathel McNabb and friend, Virgil Adams of Gladstone; Gene Bob Meighen of Rogersville; and Max and Carolyn Dickerson, Arnie Arneson, Charlene Gentry Smith, Claude and Nadine Dunn Eckert, James and Earlene Moore, Donna Shields Wagner and Laura Sue Daniels, all of Trenton.
Class of 1952
Members of the THS Class of 1952 met on Aug. 31 at Dino’s Diner for their 67th reunion.
Ed Holt greeted the class and Paul Persell gave the prayer as well as blessings for classmates and the country. During the business meeting, ti was decided to plan for a class reunion in 2020 with Dixie Brown, JoAnne Sawyer, Marilyn Whitacre, Paul Persell, Leon Spencer and Ed Holt serving on the planning committee.
Those unable to attend and who were acknowledged were Darlene Crow Hampsher, Zora Robertson Hundley, Jerry Berlin and Rex Burress. Marilyn Whitacre shared a letter from Ada Ward Branham. Dixie Brown read the names of 44 cass members who are known to be deceased, followed by a silent prayer and a closing prayer by Paul Persell.
The class toured the Adams Park Apartment, which served as Trenton High School for the Class of 1952. Leon Spencer took random pictures during the evening.

Visitors included Bev Hooker and Russ Wade.
The class meetings monthly at 8:15 a.m. on the second Thursday of each month at Dino’s.
Class of 1954
Ten classmates and three guests attended the 65th class reunion of the Trenton High School Class of 1954, held at the Pizza Hut on Aug. 31. They included Bob Lager of Raymore, George Ewing of Chillicothe, Carolyn Louderback Brown of Spickard and Joetha Roberts Harris, Bonnie Rhea McNabb, Betty Wise Siemer, Joan Wilson Thomason, Wayne and Murial Brassfield, John and Beverly Whitley and Warren and Peggy Robinson Kirby, all of Trenton.
The meeting was spent reminiscing about the past and renewing old friendships. The next monthly meeting of the group will be held at 9 a.m. on Sept. 21 at Dino’s Diner.
Class of 1955
The THS Class of 1955 celebrated its 64th reunion at the Wesley United Methodist Church on Saturday, Aug. 31.
A carry-in lunch, with desserts and drinks, was provided. The time was spent visiting and reminiscing. The group plans to meet again in 2020 for their 65th reunion.

Class of 1964
Forty-one class members of the THS Class of 1964, along with 23 spouses and guests gathered on Aug. 31 in the Sugg Room at the Ketcham Community Center to celebrate their 55-year class reunion. Dr. John Holcomb was the emcee and Dan Moore offered the invocation before the catered meal.
Following the meal, a memorial service for 31 class members, including five who passed away since the last reunion, was observed. Also remembered were five former teachers and coaches who passed away in the last five years. Video presentations by Tony Ralston and Dr. Holcomb were enjoyed by the crowd.
Discussions were held of future gatherings including a continuation of the monthly meetings, a 75th birthday celebration in 2021 and the 60th class reunion in 2024.
Special guests were former teacher Bob Crow and his wife, Barbara of Trenton. Other guests included Rosemary McRae Laverack of LaCyne, KS and Edna Trump Kitchen of Hermann.

Class of 1974
The THS Class of 1974 met for its 45th reunion on Aug. 31 at The Space with 51 in attendance, including 33 class members. Former teacher Ron McCullough also attended.
A catered meal was served and the group walked to the post office for a class photo. Clark Palmer was the speaker for the evening. It was announced that Mike Anderson won the barn quilt raffle, which brought in $275 for the class.

Class of 1994
Over 80 classmates and guests of the THS Class of 1994 met on Saturday for the 25-year-reunion at a picnic hosted by Brandon and Tammie Coon Spencer.
Dan McCullough and Todd Maxey welcomed those in attendance and thanked the planning committee. Recognized and presented with a bouquet of flowers was the 2019 THS alumni honoree Barbara Spencer. Mrs. Spencer was selected for the honor by the Class of 1994. A short memorial service was held for three deceased classmates, Shane Epperson, Brad Hammond and Michelle Spidle. The remainder of the afternoon was spent visiting and catching up.
Members of the 2019 planning committee were Dan McCullough, Todd Maxey, Tammie Coon Spencer, John Kennebeck and Kyle Hurst. The Class will next meet in 2024.
