Two Trenton residents are being held in the Grundy County Detention Center in connection with the assault of a minor while a Spickard woman has been charged in connection with a motor vehicle accident.
According to court information, Zane W. Rottman, 18, is charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, third degree assault and possession of a controlled substance, all three class A misdemeanors. Nathan W. Hinkle, also an 18-year-old Trenton man, is charged with the class E felony of third degree assault. The men are accused of agreeing that one of them would assault a male minor, with Hinkle accused of causing physical injury to the minor by striking him with a closed fist on the right side of his face. The incident allegedly occurred on Aug. 31. In addition, Rottman is accused of possessing marijuana and a switchblade. Both are being held in the Grundy County Detention Center on $5,000 cash-only bond.
Also arrested was Tonya A. Baumgartner, a 42-year-old Spickard resident who is charged with driving while intoxicated, a class E felony; failing to drive on the right half of the roadway when the roadway was of sufficient width, a class A misdemeanor; operating a vehicle on the highway without a valid license, a class D misdemeanor; and failing to maintain financial responsibility for a motor vehicle, a class D misdemeanor. She is accused of acting with criminal negligence by operating a motor vehicle in an intoxicated condition on Aug. 31. She allegedly drove her vehicle to the wrong side of the roadway, causing an accident that resulted in physical injury to three victims. She had no valid driver’s license at the time of the accident and had not maintained liability insurance for the vehicle. She is being held in the GCDC on $15,000 cash or corporate surety bond.
Rottman, Hinkle and Ms. Baumgartner were all scheduled to make their initial court appearances on Sept. 3, with a fourth person, Shawn A. Wells, a 38-year-old Trenton man, scheduled to be in court on Sept. 12 after being arrested on a probation violation. His probation on an original class E felony charge of first degree property damage has been suspended. His bond is $5,000 cash or 10 percent and he remains in the Grundy County Detention Center.
