George Warren Mitchell, a 77-year-old rural Gilman City resident, died on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2019 at his home.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2019 at the IOOF Cemetery at Edinburg. The services will be preceded by a family visitation from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Resthaven Mortuary of Trenton.
An open visitation will begin at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2019 at the mortuary.
Mr. Mitchell was born on Jan. 30, 1942 in Montgomery City, the son of Willis W. and Willamene Hampton Mitchell. He was a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say and was the youngest Eagle Scout in Missouri in 1954. He graduated from Gilman City High School in 1960 and attended the Kansas City School of Engineering. He also served his country in the United States Army in 1964 and 1965.
Mr. Mitchell was a farmer and raised registered quarterhorses. He also was an over-the-road professional truck driver from 1960-1983 and was a member of the Union Local 41 Teamsters. He held a real estate broker’s license from 1973 until his death and was a lifetime member of the American Quarter Horse Association.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Cheryl; two daughters, Penny Roberts and her husband, Rodney and Misty Brazzell and her husband, Tim; a son, Justin Mitchell and his wife, Michelle; four grandchildren, Logan and Lauren Brazzell and Ashley and Boyd Mitchell; a great-granddaughter, Braelyn Brazzell; an aunt, Althea Hampton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Wesley Mitchell.
Memorial donations are suggested to the Edinburg IOOF Cemetery and may be left with or mailed to Resthaven Mortuary at 310 North Hwy 65, PO Box 587, Trenton, MO 64683.
