Aug 9, 2019 | Headline News

The 2019 tax rate was set for the city of Galt when the Board of Aldermen met on Wednesday, Aug. 7.
City Clerk Ashley Campbell reported the tax rate was set at $1 on the $100 assessed valuation. This is an increase of 5.09 cents from last year, when the rate was 94.91 cents.
An ordinance was approved updating utility deposit amounts for city residents. Ms. Campbell said the amount to be charged for new owner-occupied properties is $170 while new renter-occupied properties will be charged $370. The old deposit rate was $170 for all new customers. Deposits are due before utility services will be turned on or transferred into a new account name. The deposit covers electric, water, sewer and trash services.
The next meeting of the board will be at 6 p.m. on Sept. 10.
