Art’s Alive Membership Drive Under Way; Meeting Set For Aug. 20

Jul 29, 2019 | Headline News

Potential charter members for the newly-formed “Art’s Alive” group are being invited to attend an August meeting when information about on-going efforts to revitalize an arts program in the area will be shared.
The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 20 in the Sugg Room of the Ketcham Community Center on the campus of North Central Missouri College. All interested persons are encouraged to attend.
A community group of around 15 to 20 persons has been meeting once a month since April to put together an organization that would spearhead efforts to bring back the arts to Grundy County and the surrounding area. Phil Schlarb, retired NCMC professor emeritus, has been leading the meetings, during which time work has been done to come up with a name for the organization as well as putting together by-laws and a constitution and working on other items which need to be in place before actual programming can be determined and scheduled.
One of the decisions made by the group is establishment of a membership drive, allowing interested individuals to join “Art’s Alive” for $20. Members would have voting privileges within the organization, including eligibility to nominate and vote for board members as well as being eligible to serve on the board itself. The $20 membership would be used by the organization as seed money to pay for expenses already incurred by the group in its efforts to become a not-for-profit organization and be registered with the state of Missouri. Additional monies to help pay for future programming would come through the sale of tickets to be done once a schedule of events is established.
Persons interested in becoming a member would be able to pay their membership fee at the Aug. 20 meeting, during which time information about the group will be shared and questions will be answered.
Those who cannot attend the meeting but would still like to be involved and pay their membership can contact Schlarb or Katie Kinney, who is serving as temporary treasurer of the organization until the new board can be established. Persons can stop by Dynamic Tax and Accounting Services to pay their membership fee or may call Ms. Kinney at 654-1443 after business hours.
