Curtis Crawford of the Grundy County Farm Service Agency was the speaker at the Thursday, July 11 meeting of the Trenton Rotary Club. Rick Klinginsmith was the program chairman.
Crawford talked about the newly-approved Farm Bill and changes to programs contained within the legislation. He said that while the Conservation Reserve Program remains basically the same, Grundy County acreage in the program has decreased. As a result, Crawford said a general sign-up is being planned for later this fall.
He said that Grundy County farmers have received around $2.4 million in federal funding paid out in connection with the tariffs placed on farm products by the government. He anticipates a similar program being available in the fall for this year’s crop.
Crawford told about emergency conservation programs available in Grundy County to help with acreage damaged by flooding, including money to remove sand from fields, replacement of destroyed fences, etc.
During the business meeting, President Tim Michael distributed the program list for the year and asked members to take note of their assigned date. Members also discussed upcoming activities, including the fish fry in September and the Missouri Day Parade in October.
Rick Klinginsmith will be the program chairman on July 18.
