Bill Chumbley, an 82-year-old Trenton resident, died at 1:40 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at Sunnyview Nursing Home in Trenton.
His body was cremated under the direction of Slater-Neal Funeral Home, at Trenton. At his request, no services are planned.
Mr. Chumbley was born on April 11, 1937 in Lancaster, CA, the son of Lester and Letha Sharp Chumbley. He attended Trenton schools and received an associate of arts degree while living in Imperial Beach, CA. He served in the United States Air Force as well as the United States Navy, retiring as a Senior Chief E-8 in 1981. Upon retiring from the Navy he went to work for the Trenton Republican-Times. He later went to work for the City of Trenton as a police officer. He retired in 2002 from the police department with the rank of lieutenant and was also the DARE officer for the department.
He was an avid golfer, reader, tinkerer and talker.
He was married on Oct. 12, 1958 in Trenton to Donna Jean Hudson.
He was married on May 24, 1996 in Trenton to Mary Ann Rapp, who survives of the home.
He is also survived by two sons, Scott Chumbley and his wife, Becky of Rogersville and Christopher Chumbley of Paragould, AR; one stepdaughter, Afton Thomas and her husband, Warren of Des Moines, IA; and one granddaughter, Lauryn Chumbley of Springfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Betty, Ruth and Maxine.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society and may be left at or mailed to Slater-Neal Funeral Home in Trenton.
