Bright Futures Trenton will be hosting a community “Back to School” event on Tuesday, Aug. 6.
The event will be similar to one held last year and is available to help those students and families needing assistance in getting their children ready for the school year. Bright Futures, the Grundy County Health Department and local churches, organizations, businesses and individuals will be coming together to help meet those needs.
The day will begin with online enrollment taking place at Trenton High School from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Computers will be provided and R-9 staff will be available to help parents with this process. In addition to enrollment, school supplies, elementary school gym shoes and “gently used’ Bulldog apparel will be distributed. This will also take place at the high school.
The health department will be holding its annual health fair at the First Christian Church from 4 to 7 p.m. In addition to health screenings, safety information and hygiene supplies will be provided and games will be available for the children.
Clothing and new shoe distribution will take place at the First Baptist Church, also from 4 to 7 p.m. Free student haircuts are also scheduled.
Trenton Cinema will be providing popcorn and soda for students from 2 to 6 p.m. Trenton Hy-Vee will host a cookout at Moberly Park from 6 to 8 p.m. for those families who participated in the day’s activities.
The day will end with a swimming party at the Trenton Family Aquatic Center from 7 to 9 p.m.
According to the Bright Futures Facebook page, donations are being sought for three items needed for the event. Gently-used Bulldog apparel and gym shoes for elementary-aged students can be dropped off at the Community Action Partnership of North Missouri office at 1506 Oklahoma Ave. or placed in collection boxes located at Hy-Vee.
Gently worn, clean clothing for students of all ages, preschool through high school, is also needed. Items may be dropped off at the First Baptist Church during business hours.
The organization’s Facebook page – Bright Futures Trenton – also lists specific volunteer requests for not only the Aug. 6 event as well as for other needs throughout the year.
