James Duane “Jimmy” McCarty, an 82-year-old resident of Lineville, IA, died on Sunday, June 9, 2019 at a Des Moines, IA, hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today (Friday, June 14, 2019) at Roberson Funeral Home in Lineville. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Lineville.
Mr. McCarty was born on Sept. 14, 1936 in Woodland, IA, the son of Howard Orville and Estel Geneva Ward McCarty. He was a 1955 graduate of Mercer High School. He was married on Dec. 28, 1956 to Verla Berniece Gibson, who preceded him in death on Dec. 31, 2011.
He enjoyed playing cards, dancing, watching the St. Louis Cardinals and coached fast pitch softball. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Lineville.
He is survived by two sons, James “Keith” McCarty of Chariton, IA and Darrell Duane McCarty of Lineville; grandchildren, Michele (James) Deardorff of Adel, IA and Aaron (Emily) McCarty of Madrid, IA; great-grandchildren, Claire, Finn and Reagan McCarty, Brilee, Kailee, Cayden, Dayah and Nighten Deardorff and Dalton Thompson; two brothers, Rex and John McCarty; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Arlene Mulvania; and three brothers, Gary, Bobby and Max McCarty.
