William Silas “Bill” McLain, an 89-year-old rural Laredo resident, died at 9:09 a.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at Wright Memorial Hospital in Trenton.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 10, 2019 at Resthaven Mortuary of Trenton. Burial will follow in Rural Dale Cemetery, east of Trenton.
A visitation is scheduled from 10 until 11 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Open visitation will begin at noon on Sunday, June 9, 2019.
Mr. McLain was born on Aug. 21, 1929 in Grundy County, the son of Harve A. and Bliss L. McDonald McLain. He was a lifelong Grundy County resident and farmer. He loved being with his grandkids, taking care of his cattle, training his birddogs and mushroom hunting.
He was married on April 18, 1948 in Trenton to Christine Brown. They are members of Salem Baptist Church, north of Trenton.
Survivors include his wife, Christine of the home; a son, Bill McLain and his wife, Cheryl and a daughter, Connie Crawford and her husband, Danny, both of rural Trenton; a sister, Carol Clark of Des Plaines, IL; a brother-in-law, Bernie Nickell of Peculiar; grandchildren, Scott Crawford and his wife, Tiffany of Trenton, Michelle Davis and her husband, Brandon of Lee’s Summit and Eric McLain and his wife, Marsha of Chula; great-grandchildren, Karli and Kayli Crawford of Trenton, Maggie McLain of Chula and Evan Davis of Lee’s Summit; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a three-year-old daughter, Sharon Deanna; sisters, Mary Whitney, Doris Stinnett, Lois McLaughlin and Lyndall Nickell; a grandson, Brad McLain; and daughter-in-law, Beth McLain.
Memorial donations are suggested to either the Rural Dale Cemetery or the Salem Baptist Church. They may be left at or mailed to the mortuary.
