The 101st Spickard Alumni Banquet was held on Saturday, May 11 in the Spickard School Gym with 91 registered guests. The Class of 1968 hosted the event.
Bruce Lenhardt served as emcee, welcoming everyone and leading the pledge to the U.S. flag. He recognized the class of 1968 for organizing the event, including Cheryl Howe Ranes, Kay Tharp Crawford and her husband, Larry and Jorry Browning and his wife, May. Others who helped were Marian Wood Kasparson, Venna Kincade Brush and her husband, Henry, Peggy Hickman Bryan and Patsy Bryan Holt.
Larry Crawford gave the invocation prior to the meal.
Special recognition was given to 2019 Spickard School District graduate Rodney Lawrence of Trenton; the 50-year class of 1969, with 10 in attendance; the 60-year class, with Donnie Stephens present; the 65-year class, with Vera Lynn and Jean Kincade present; Karen Frisbie of New York, alum traveling the farthest; and Dixie Yates, oldest class member represented (Class of 1950).
The honored class of l969 was introduced by Mike Perry. Those present were Gary Speck, Connie Hall Steele; Cindy Coon Kelsall, Nancy Hathaway, Cornelia Webb Hardy, Terry Bryan, John Keith, Richard Cunningham and Billy Wilson.
A raffle of two Spickard Pirate t-shirts brought in $108 to help replenish the treasury. Larry Crawford and Greg Coon won the t-shirts.
Memorial service for six members who have passed this past year was given by Bruce Lenhardt. Dixie Yates and Margaret Chapman Griffin submitted the names , who included Orma Jean Clemmons Mason, 1947; Barbara Perry McVay, l954; Thomas Bert Swafford, 1956; Leon Crawford, 1963; Roger Wilson, 1966; and Callie Crawford Jeffers, 1994 (Princeton).
It was voted to accept Terry Bryan and DeLyla Alexander as honorary members of the Spickard Alumni Association.
The class of 1969 accepted responsibility of hosting next year’s alumni on the Saturday night before Mother’s Day. The meeting was closed with the singing of the school song and Larry Crawford giving the benediction.
