Barbara Evelyn McVay. an 82-year-old resident of Trenton, died at 9:55 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at Eastview Manor Care Center in Trenton.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at the First Christian Church, Trenton. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, north of Trenton.
A family visitation will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at Resthaven Mortuary of Trenton.
Mrs. McVay was born on Nov. 29, 1936 in Spickard, the daughter of McKinley and Beulah Tuttle Perry. She graduated from Spickard High School in 1954 and graduated from Trenton Junior College in 1956. She was a homemaker and also a substitute school teacher for many years. She worked for the J.D. O’Flarety law firm and Old American Insurance Co. in Kansas City. She was employed in Trenton by attorney Herbert S. Brown, Best Abstract and Title Co., the Grundy County ASCS office of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Farmers Mutual Insurance Co., Hoffman & Reed Farm Supply and Hy-Vee Food Store.
She was a member of First Christian Church, the Campbell Circle of the Christian Women’s Fellowship, a life member of Major Dale Stepp Post No. 31 of the American Legion Auxiliary, Parson Chapter No. 189 of the OES, the Grundy County Farm Bureau and the Grundy County Genealogy Society.
She was a former member of Christian churches Disciples of Christ of Spickard, Community Church of Kansas City and Wyatt Park of St. Joseph; Trenton Elks Lodge No. 801 Ladies Auxiliary; the Southside Farm Club; and Phi Theta Kappa honor society, pep squad and Phi Mu Epsilon sorority, all of Trenton Junior College.
She was married on June 3, 1961 in Trenton to Robert Ross McVay, who preceded her in death on March 15, 2017.
Survivors include her son, Robert Graham McVay of Trenton; a step-brother, Lewis Griffin and his wife, Margaret Chapman of Spickard; a step-sister, Lois McVay of Sedalia; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, William Perry McVay; her step-father, John L. Griffin; and a step-sister, Imalee Blumhorst.
Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church and may be left at the mortuary.
