Tennis Team Handles Lexington

Apr 26, 2019 | Sports & Recreation, Tennis

The tennis dual with Lexington on Thursday wasn’t much of a test for Trenton as the Bulldogs had three wins before the first serve was even tossed.
Lexington features just four players on this year’s Minutemen squad and Trenton didn’t have much trouble with those matches that were played. The Bulldogs dropped just one point in the entire dual, shutting out Lexington 9-0.
Nick Shields and Creed Houghton combined for an 8-0 win in doubles play and Weston Otto and Jonin Villacampa picked up an 8-0 win as well. Trenton took a forfeit win in the third doubles match to go up 3-0.
In singles play, Gabe Swann scored an 8-0 win at number one and Jeremy Elliott won 8-0 at number two. Isaac Harris scored an 8-1 win at number three and Villacampa won 8-0 at number four. Trenton got forfeit wins at number five and six.
“This was a very nice win for our boys,” Trenton Coach David Sager said. “We had to do a little shuffling with our team due to Lexington only having four players, but everyone got a match and took care of business in their assignment.”
The win vaulted Trenton’s tennis team to 9-0 overall on the season.
The Bulldogs will return to action on Monday, traveling to Kirksville for a dual with the Tigers, who fell by just a single point in their first dual with Trenton earlier this week. First serves in Kirksville are scheduled for 4 p.m.
