The Trenton Middle School track and field teams were in action on Thursday at the Lathrop Middle School Invitational.
The meet was split into seventh- and eighth-grade divisions. Trenton’s boys placed second in the eighth-grade standings with 102.5 points, just behind Lathrop’s 116 points. The boys were sixth in the seventh-grade standings with 44 points. For the girls, Trenton was fifth in the eighth-grade standings with 65 points and third in the seventh-grade standings with 77.5 points.
TMS BOYS
The Trenton boys won four gold medals at the eighth-grade level with Dylan Spencer winning the shot put with a throw of 36-3 and the discus with a throw of 129-4. Coleman Griffin, Levi Johnson, Frankie Halstead and Ian Elbert combined to win the 4×200-meter relay with a time of 1:53.28 and Rudy Esparza, Elbert, Nicholas Smith and Griffin won the 4×400-meter relay with a time of 4:19.45.
Other top-three finishers for the Trenton eighth grade boys included Smith, second in the 100-meter hurdles; Jarek Habelitz, second in the 100-meter dash and third in the 200-meter dash and long jump; Trent Villacampa, second in the triple jump; Griffin, third in the triple jump; and the 4×100-meter relay team of Elbert, Halstead, Smith and Habelitz, second.
Top-three finishers for the seventh grade boys included Brayden Hughs, third in the 400-meter dash; and Michael Nyakoojo, third in the triple jump.
“The conditions were less than ideal, but overall I’m very proud of this group and how they competed,” TMS boys Coach Brandon Boswell said.
TMS GIRLS
Trenton’s girls had two gold-medal winners at the eighth-grade level. Savannah Triplet won the 200-meter dash with a time of 30.05 and Ivy Foster won the discus with a throw of 79-5. Triplet added a second-place finish in the 100-meter dash and Makenzee Epperson was third in the shot put.
For the Trenton seventh-grade girls, Emma Roberts won the shot put with a throw of 31-3 and was also third in the long jump. Kaitlyn Dixson was second in both the 1,600- and 800-meter runs and Dariana Sanchez was third in the discus. Madi Moore was third in the high jump and the 4×400-meter relay team of Maddy Couey, Jena Harris, Moore and Roberts placed third as well.
“The Lathrop meet was not in ideal conditions, but we had a lot of fun as a team and some great performances,” TMS girls Coach Jennifer Dickson said. “I am always so proud of the attitude, energy and camaraderie of this team. They’re just a ton of fun. I am excited to see them continue to improve.”
Trenton’s middle school track teams are in action on Monday, running at the St. Joseph Christian Junior High Invitational. The teams travel to the Milan Relays on Thursday.
