Abby Oberman, health educator with the Grundy County Health Department, presented the program at the Thursday, April 11 meeting of the Trenton Rotary Club. Debbie Carman was the program chairman.
Mrs. Oberman talked about the services offered by the health department, in particular those pertaining to adults. She noted that many individuals come for immunizations against diseases that include flu, pneumonia, shingles and Hepatitis A. The department also does blood pressure checks, blood work, work site wellness programs, food safety checks, health education, WIC and well-child clinics, exercise classes at the senior center and emergency preparedness activities. Death and birth certificates copies can be obtained at the health department.
Mrs. Oberman also discussed community activities in which the health department plays a major role, including the school health fair that takes place for county students in the fall. The health department also sponsors the Gooseberry Festival 5K/10K run, which takes place in June.
With April being Public Health Month, the health department will be holding a customer appreciation barbecue on Friday, April 26 at the health department office from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The public is invited to the event.
During the business meeting, members were reminded that April 19 is the deadline to make contributions to the Shoes for Orphan Souls program.
The April 19 program will be presented by Steve Taylor of Preferred Family Healthcare.
