Kent Johnson, an 83-year-old Trenton resident, died at 9:15 a.m. on Thursday, April 4, 2019 at Eastview Manor Care Center in Trenton.
There will be a private burial under the direction of Whitaker-Eads Funeral Home of Trenton.
A celebration of life and carry in dinner will be held at noon on Sunday, April 7, 2019 at the Moberly Park Shelterhouse.
Mr. Johnson was born on May 16, 1935 in Sullivan County, the son of Floyd and Genevieve Johnson. He graduated from Galt High School. He was married on June 17, 1954 to Sara June Brown. He worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad until enlisting in the United States Army from 1953 through 1955, serving in Germany. After his military service he returned to the railroad.
He soon discovered his passion for flying and became a charter pilot for a few years before he opened Johnson Flying Service doing crop dusting from the mid 1970’s to the late 1990’s.
He was married on Dec. 31, 2007 to Lynda McNeely Hancock. Mr. Johnson then worked as an armed Brinks truck driver.
When not working, he enjoyed riding on his Harley-Davidson motorcycles and reading books. He was a storyteller and socialite who enjoyed talking with everyone.
Survivors include his wife, Lynda of the home; a son, Steven Kent Johnson; a step-daughter, Lanie Gardner; a step-son, Jared Hancock; brothers, Barry Johnson and Bill Oakman; a sister, Joy Farley; grandchildren, Brandon Johnson, Haley Johnson and Macey Johnson; step-grandchildren, Whitney Barlow, Timbre Gardner, Kyle Peery, Chase Gardner, Carrie Schmacht, Brent Hancock and Evan Hancock; and great-grandchildren, Braydon Johnson, Tristan Johnson, Kash Barlow, Kolbi Barlow, Kinslei Barlow, Prezleigh Peery, Easton Peery, Emma Schmacht, Noah Schmacht and Sammy Schmacht.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jerry Johnson; and a step-grandson, Tyler Hancock.
