Roy Eugene Simpson, a 93-year-old Trenton resident, died at 6:15 a.m. on Friday, March 22, 2019 at the Kansas City Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Kansas City.
A visitation is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at Resthaven Mortuary of Trenton. The body will be cremated afterwards with inurnment at a later date in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, north of Trenton.
Open visitation is under way at the mortuary.
Mr. Simpson was born on Feb. 27, 1926 in Pocahontas, IA, the son of Richard and Ada Cleo Lankford Simpson. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War from March 1951 to March 1953.
He was married on April 13, 1952 in Trenton to Marilyn J. Roberts. After his military service, he began work at Trenton Hardware and later became a partial owner of the store. He sold his share of the store in 1973 and started farming.
Mr. Simpson served on the Trenton Township Board as well as being a Grundy County Commissioner for 13 years.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn of Trenton; three sons, David Simpson and his wife, Cindy and Fred Simpson and his wife, Glenda, all of Trenton and Ron Simpson and his wife Gayle of Wheeling; grandchildren Eric and Aaron Bunnell, Andrea Kepner, Katie Fenimore, Jason and Jonathan Simpson, Amanda Vandevender, Crystal Stretch and Ashley Allnutt; 23 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Patty Bunnell, and siblings Virgil Simpson, Bill Simpson, Marvin Simpson, Donna Stoll, Fred Volzke and Ann Sheffield.
Memorial donations are suggested to either the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association. They may be left with or mailed to the funeral home.
