Trenton and Jamesport residents were injured on Tuesday in two accidents blamed on icy roads.
The first accident occurred at 7 p.m. on Route F in Grundy County, approximately four miles east of Jamesport. The Missouri State Highway Patrol said a truck driven by Luca Nichols, 16, of Trenton, was eastbound on Route F when it slid off the north side of the ice-covered roadway and struck a pole. The vehicle, which received extensive damage, came to rest against a fence. Nichols and a passenger, 16-year-old Darren Lowe of Jamesport, were taken by the Grundy County EMS to Wright Memorial Hospital in Trenton for treatment of minor injuries.
Investigating the accident was Trooper J.R. Acree, assisted by Cpl. C.M. Wright and the Grundy County EMS.
The second accident occurred at 8:37 p.m. on Interstate 35 in Daviess County, approximately three miles south of Winston.
A report from the highway patrol stated that a vehicle driven by Marquise T. Jones, 35, of Trenton, was northbound and slid on the ice-covered roadway, striking the rear of a semi-trailer that was stopped in the roadway due to another accident. The Jones vehicle, which was demolished, came to rest on the roadway facing north.
Jones received moderate injuries while his wife, 26-year-old Kayla Jones, received serious injuries. Three children, four-year-old Jezaniah, two-year-old Kayne and infant Xavier, all received minor injuries. The family was transported by private vehicle to Cameron Regional Medical Center for treatment of their injuries.
The accident was investigated by Trooper M.W. Neely.
