Linda Antle, director of the Grundy County Commodities Program, was the guest speaker at the Trenton Lions Club meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 15 at the First Christian Church Family Activity Center. Larry Dannar was program chairman.
Established in 1985 and affiliated with Second Harvest Community Food Bank of St. Joseph, the Grundy County Food Pantry offers the Commodities Temporary Food Assistance Program, “Senior Box” Program, Backpack Buddies and the Emergency Food Pantry. Mrs. Antle said commodities are distributed to nearly 350 families, more than 100 boxes are provided to seniors over 60 years of age and 110 food insecure students receive backpack assistance. She stressed that donations and volunteer services are always appreciated.
Following the program, President Seth Cox welcomed two new members, Trenton Police Chief Rex Ross and TPD Lt. Larry Smith. Members unanimously approved a $300 donation to the Grundy County Food Pantry. Trenton Lions Club, in partnership with Trenton R-9 School District, will co-sponsor delegates to Missouri Boys State and Girls State.
The next meeting of the Lions Club will be at noon on Tuesday, Jan. 22.
