Edna J. “Janie” May, a 94-year-old resident of Brookfield, died at 2:32 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 11, 2019 at Hedrick Medical Center at Chillicothe. She was a longtime resident of Humphreys.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2019 at the Whitaker-Eads Funeral Home in Trenton. Burial will be in Humphreys Cemetery at Humphreys.
A family visitation will be held from noon to 1 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. May was born on Sept. 27, 1924 in Humphreys, the daughter of Ray and Eva Sayers Sharp. She graduated from Humphreys High School. After graduation, she attended Kirksville State Teachers College. Her first post of employment was as a teacher in a one room schoolhouse.
After starting a family, she became a cook at the Humphreys school, later becoming the school secretary. After retiring from the secretary position at Humphreys, she was employed by the Farmers Home Administration district office, then by the farm service agency. She served as a secretary for both offices in Trenton.
She was married on April 18, 1945 to Emmet May, who preceded her in death in October 1990.
Survivors include one son, Keith May and his wife, Pam of Humphreys; three grandchildren, Colin May of Bethany, Cale May of Ripon, CA and Kaylynn Bingham of Brookfield; three great-grandchildren, Milaynie May of Bethany and Justin May and James May, both of Ripon; and a nephew, Bill O’Connor of St. Joseph.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Florene O’Connor and Velda Jasper.
Memorials are suggested to Chapter 60 of the Disabled Veterans of Trenton. They may be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
